MG Midget and Sprite Technical - A Series gearbox identification

How can you tell the difference between a 1275 and 1098 midget box . And between a Morris Minor 1098 and 1098 Midget box assuming the clutch fork is missing .

Thanks Roy

do a search in the archives, this comes up regularly. There's a number stamped on the input shaft which can be seen through the upper inspection hole after the release bearing is removed. I'm sure it's 22G229 for 1275, and IIRC 22G172 for 1098 Midget and 22G171 for Morris 1000.
