Try the Yellow pages for a local fire extinguisher sales/service shop. They should be able to recharge your bottle.

Andy, I'm concerned with the label which specifies the date when last charged and weight, they are illegable. do they have to be serviced to a certain standard for motorsport use? (uk racing)

Danny AFAIK this is a grey area with the Blue Book being no help at all. Most people find a local fire protection company and ask them to check it over. They might or might not want it removed from the car. They just check the condition of the fittings, look at the dial to ensure the needle's still in the green, and hopefully affix a new signed label.

Agree with DS - don't go to the expense of a "specialist" motorsport type extinguisher company. Unnecessary and expensive.

Any fire extinguisher service company will update the label, or if you know the extinguisher is good, I'd just print one off myself!

They won't recharge it unless it's out of the green on the dial, you can work out exactly how much is in it by weighing it, should have the tare marked on the bottle.

I'm sure you can check that all the pull cables and pipes are OK!

You may want to check the "sell by date" on the actual suppressant, if it's a really old bottle.

Hmmmmmmmmm,
We service our AFFF bottles every 5 years because they are pressure vessels - its not the outside you worry about but the inside.
AFFF has a shelf life of 20 years but I would suggest a check and recharge every 5 years to be on the safe side - you are only going to use it once and really want it to work correctly.

ok seems like i need to speak to a friendly extinguisher company, I have not fitted it yet (I bought it 2nd hand a couple of years ago 'just incase' i ever needed it to go 'up' to racing!)
