MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Alloy caliper identification

I acquired some Lockheed alloy 2 pot calipers with a rear axle a while ago.

I will be using them but will have to get them refurbed, it would be nice to ID them first.

They have the code CP2215-1&2 on them. The pads are Lockheed too and have M171 29AJ2 on the back.

Any ideas?

Dunno but your writing bureau looks similar to mine only with a leather inlay!
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve

it's like a tardis that bureau! Everything disappears into the drawers.

Looks like Citroen 2CV to me, possible Daf.

Gary,

You trying to wind Matt up aren't you?. Does look much like 2CV calipers to me and they would have the handbrake mechanism fitted or positions to fit them, the 2CV caliper being vaguely like the XJ6 rear caliper with a handbrake mechanism slung off the caliper body.

Well the M171 bit on the pads refers to the lining material. But you probably knew that.
Might be worth browsing through the index cards to brake pads at Halfrauds?

And oddly, googling for Lockheed CP2215 comes up with various motorcycle master cylinders....

I would speak to BG Developments in bromsgrove, they should be able to help.

Nice callipers Matt, do they line up to the Spridget mounting holes?

try this?

Don't know Mark, I'll be using them with some big pogo 504 disks so I'll have to make a bracket to space it out. Haven't even tried to see if they do line up.

Mark - I'll try them thanks. I'll take them down to the local factors too and give them a challenge.

IIRC, my AP Racing 10.25 inch front brakes use CP2216 calipers. Hope this helps.

rob, why the "10.25 inch brakes, alloy hubs and alloy AP Racing calipers. Too powerful for the car, so removed."?

The disks I have look about 10", but the calipers look similar sized to standard midget ones. Hence the only real diff to braking effort is the disc diameter- I wouldn't have thought this to be over the top for the car, esp with road pads like green stuff.

It seemed to have an ability to allow 2 turns of the tyre before it went "Max Auto" (as we say in the aviation industry) It would slow the car down slightly for a micro-second before it suddenly 'bit' and either locked the wheel in the wet or pulled up sharply. there didn't seem to be any middle ground of gently braking. Maybe the pad choice was unsuitable but I didn't enjoy the feeling, so I went back to the original design.

Massive weight saving with alloy hubs and calipers!

What pads were you using?
Tarquin

They were 1144, If I remember correctly. Might be wrong.
Somebody borrowed the set to measure them so that he could copy the kit. Can't remember his name but I can remember he returned them without the wheel bearings and spacer.
