MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Anti roll bar doesn't fit

Hi all.

I bought a fast road spec front anti roll bar from moss and all of the bits links, suspension arm plates, mounting bits (forgot the bolts for these bugger). I jacked car up and fitted suspension plates, links and then the bar to the links on both sides. However, when i rotate the bar up and offer it up to the mounting points it misses by about 2 inches.

Any thought on what I've done wrong? Don't think she's has ever had an impact!

These photos helped, but am sure i've done everything right

Thanks for any info.

You've got the front suspension with weight off don't you? Reset your stands under the A frames and get some weight on them and I think your bar will come closer to fitting up.

It is nowhere near jacked up, on stands or flat on the ground

Neil, are you two inches behind of the mounts or in front? It does sound like they shipped you the wrong bar though.
Bill Young

Neil do you have the ability to take a photo of your problem. Sometimes it is easy to miss the obvious that will be seen in a photo posted here?

The bar misses the centre of the two holes in the reinforced section by nearly 2 inches away from the front bumper.

Will try to up load a photo

Neil your wishbone, the disc on the side shows it to be an early one has it been recond and if so it may not have had anti roll bar holes just check to your old ones they have been drilled in the correct place, just a thought.

Is the triangluar bracket on the wishbones the right orientation?
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

If you have assembled it as in the photos, it should be right. Will the bar pull forward into position? The two drop links should pivot forwards at their lower end so that they do not sit truly vertical. If they were, then they would catch on the slight flange on the lower wishbone. I think also that the rubber bushes and the straps that hold them the bar fits into are asymetric so that the bar isn't actually dead centre between the two mounting bolt holes.

Incidentally, if you are using an uprated ARB you may find that you need to weld some re-enforcing where the bar mounts bolt to the underside of the chassis legs. It is not uncommon for the thin metal plates there to tear out if you tear around corners.
