MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Anti roll bar oops
Funny clanking noise coming from the front of the midget at the weekend - nothing really obvious until I yanked the anti roll bar - its pulled a section out of the chassis rail. I take it its ok to get a patch welded on the rail to get everything back to normal? Think we might have been a bit too enthusiastic on the tests during the Hughes rally.. |

David This is a very common failing. The bottom of the chassis rail is only spot welded and often tears off. There is lots in the archive on this. It happened to me and I got a welder to seam weld the affected area. Some others have welded in strenthening plates with the ARB mounting points attached. |

>>> Some others have welded in strengthening plates with the ARB mounting points attached. <<< Exactly what I had to do. I replaced my ARB with a 3/4" item several years ago, and the mounts didn't like it. So I took it to a friend with a MIG, and we made patches out of 1/8" stock that we then seam-welded in place. So far, so good. -:G:- |
