MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Automatic Gearbox

Has anyone here converted a Spridget to an automatic gearbox.
I have been asked by someone, with mobility issues, how they can convert a Frogeye to an Automatic Gearbox. The Frogeye, in question, needs a lot of restoration so a bit of cutting wont be a problem but 'how to' and what to use. MGB / Marina gearbox. I recall some years ago a Pro Garage were offering conversions even to the extent of extending the chassis and doors for easier access,but whom is lost to memory.

I have similar recollections regarding the door opening.

There was a Marina 1.3 auto, which would presumably be a suitable donor - if you could find one.

I have an MGB type 35 auto 'box, which, from memory, is smaller and lighter than a manual MGB 'box.

Yes there was a automatic conversion... But i cant remember the exact car the auto came from...i want to say it was the marina also

I want to say the early 80s toyota trecel was a good canadite

Look also in the arcives.... There was a BBS group project we all contributed to on making the clutch peddle on the gear stick using a motor clycle lever as the clutch peddle...it sure seemed it would work, im not sure what the disability your working with, but our challange was a young man that lost his left leg....the clutch leg

Problem with legs. A hand operated clutch might suffice but I cannot find the thread.

To be honest for the cost involved there are mid 1990's imported MX5/Eunoses that are not rusty and go for low prices as nobody wants an automatic.

You should get one with a long MOT for £800!

Maybe not what they want to hear but on the road as soon as you pay for it and insure it.

Alan... At least you looked,

the arcives is a scary place.... I want to say it was about 6 years ago, i remember mark T, david lieb, bill young, arie, phil task dog myself, nick and frank clarisse ( both rip), and a number of others all worked on the problem

The Northern MG Centre did a conversion to Automatic Transmission, drivers door mods, hand or conventional controls, boot mods for a std wheelchair and servo brakes. They displayed at Sheffield Arena Show (year?) but I have tried the phone number to get a recorded message stating that incoming calls are blocked. I have e-mailed but I dont expect a reply. I have googled with no good result. I am assuming that they ceased trading.

Lawerance.... I suffer from a deformaty known as center leg gigantious....yepp, it hangs down to my knee caps, oh if only i could be normal for a day.... Dont cry for me, just prayers is all...is all i need, its so tragic...
