MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Bleeding Master Cylinder.

Changed the brake fluid on my 1970 midget (single line) recently & despite bleeding all 4 wheels still requires a pump on hard breaking so guess air is still present somewhere.

Mr.gunson says 1 remedy is to bleed the master cylinder.

Can someone advise me how this is done please as Mr Haynes does not seem to say?

A gunson "easy bleed" may help, though in my experience they end up blasting brake fluid all over the engine bay in addition to bleeding the brakes. If you do use one make sure you get a really good seal onto the master cylinder, and don't have too much pressure in the spare tyre powering it all.

I bled the system on my car with a vacuum device, which was so easy I couldn't believe it. Actually, my mate did it while I watched.... I'd previously tried the traditional way, but it still had air in the system.

Got your rear brakes adjusted up nice and close, Gavin?

Have you a servo fitted?
I use a hand held vacumm pump rather than the easybleed, as i don't like presurising a canister of paint stripper next to my car anymore. Luckily i was using silicone at the time & yes i did read the instructions,... afterwards amittedly.

Having really struggled with this a couple of times, it can be helpful if you can get the rear of the car up.

And as said before, keep the pressure down on the easibleed. And, remember to disconnect it from the tyre before you disconnect it from the master cylinder. I've done both of them - the result of both is the same. Paint stripper everywhere.

I bought A hand vacuum as recommended by Practical Classics & frankly it sucked (but not very well).

Will have a go with the Easy Bleed again over Xmas. Did try the raising car front and rear thang & adjusting drums. I will be like that spider from Scotland.

Thanks all.

What happened with the suction pump? I'd be interested to know.
