MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Boot Floor - Rear Panel Reinforcements

Hi,

Does anyone else have these two reinforcements that links the boot floor to the rear panel as shown in the photo.

I am lining up a new boot floor panel and there are holes on each side but they don't match my old panel.

Any help would be very welcome.

Many thanks

James

James Paul

Yes, they reinforce the rear bumper mounting points - split type in my case.
AdrianR

If you have split rear bumpers then there are 4 reinforcing brackets. One-piece bumper had just the two.
Do you need a pair?

David Smith

So there are. 24" between the centre pair for mine, maybe you have the floor for a different car.

AdrianR

James,
in your photo you appear to have two brackets that are the same (sided) rather than opposite handed (as a set) if so this would throw things off.
Nigel Atkins

The brackets are made that way Nigel. They are not made as handed pairs.
GuyW

Guy,
thank you. I didn't know that.

Nigel Atkins

James,
could it be that then that instead you might have a mismatch of brackets as there is a possibility of 5 different brackets?

James,
I found this good image at Rimmers of the bracket you should have -

Adrian's car like mine, sorry, is a split bumper so the 24" won't tie in with yours.
Nigel Atkins

Same part as in the pic I posted earlier - except it looks as if the Heritage repro version doesn't have the strengthening scallop in the flat section of the originals. Difficult to see but it should be where the label is.
David Smith

David,
I wasn't trying to step on your toes I thought you were offering the later brackets because the drawings I've seen of the earlier bracket all show without indent.

I put the Rimmer's photo up as it clearly shows one hole for the bumper iron fixing rather than two holes on the later brackets for the bumper brackets fixings.

If your brackets only have one hole for the bumper iron fixing then I aplogise, I thought that might be a stock photo of yours so difficult to turn the brackets to show one or two holes as you and the brackets could be far apart.
Nigel Atkins

Thanks very much for your replies.

I think the floor isn't the exactly match for my 1965 MkII but there hasn't been a repair panel that has fitted without some modification.

I have attached a photo of the old support that looks very similar to the heritage one. When I bought the car the bumpers were not attached so you have been a great help explaining whats what here.

I will upload a photo of the new floor panel in place so you an see the holes.

Thanks very much!

James
