MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Brake disc cut through upper arm?????

Hi, my boss bought a 1.6 K Series midget the other day and he let me have a go in it (well it would be rude not too!!).

He sent it off to have a fresh MOT put on it and had a call from the tester to say that the brake disc had worn halfway through the upper arm?

According to the advert the car has a big brake conversion and a Frontline conversion. I can't think of any way that this could happen given that the arm doesn't overlap the disc, any ideas?

I haven't seen the car since it failed but I'm guessing that one of the mechanics where I work will get it on a ramp when it does come back.

I will take some pics it I get chance.

Thanks
Mark

P.S I want a K Midget now!!!!!!!!!!

Mmm... strange, I wonder if the spacer was left off and rigged with washers or something...coil springs maybe went soft?

I just cant imagine

Agree... photos are a must for this one

disc is bigger and has to have a spacer between top arm and top of king pin to clear the arm on full lock. Perhaps this hasn't been done.

K-midgets are great. Posse of us were at castle coombe yesterday playing with Ferraris and GT40s :)

Rob,

Real GT40s? I remember seeing a real one at Castle Combe once, the owner took it out on the track but couldn't get any gear but 1st so put it back on the trailer and left, a real shame. Nice to see genuine cars from time to time, I remember Paul Channon and his AC Cobra at Wiscombe.

Hi all, it doesn't look like I will see the car before it is rectified as the boss has sent it to a 'race specialist' to have the suspension sorted out and set up properly as he didn't like how it felt.

I did tell him that there isn't much in the way of front suspension adjustment on a Midget but hey, what do I know!!!!

I will keep you all posted if I hear the reason and will post pics if I can get any.

Thanks

Im glad to know thats not a missouri thing ...I run into people like your boss from time to time

I.tell.them how to do something the rightway, and without a question the next day they say I met this guy named jimmy last night at the pub and after 12 beers he said in should do it this way

And yet jimmy has no clue about the converstaion the next day when the project fails and the home owner calls him to ask what went wrong

Yeah... ive only done this for 30 years, jimmy saw it on a saterday morning tv show. So obviously, jimmy is much more qualified then I am.

I've met people like that. Worked with a woman who's husband was a manufacturing engineer and he was having problems with his starter so he took it off to get it checked at the auto parts store and they told him that there was nothing wrong with his dynamo.

And I could tell you many more stories as I'm sure many of you can also.
Martin Washington

Haha

Good one martian, it makes you wonder how often that happens of confusing the starter vs the alt

Hi David, fake gt40s I think, though I'm not good enough to tell. There were a few genuine ferraris though!

Sounds like it could be an oversize disc conversion not quite set up right. The arm can be a clearance issue with bigger brakes.
