MG Midget and Sprite Technical - bulkhead reapare complete...?

I have finished my RH bulkhead repair, i think...
Theres a few areas that might need some more welding, but im not sure if its ok...

At the lower part near the floor i blew through so had to fill a fairly large hole with weld..which you can clearly see on the pics.
Im not concerned aboutl looks, more strength.

What do you think?

In this pic you can clearly see the join, and where i filled the hole with weld. If i grind it any more i think i might go through the pannel.

Rob I thought I was ambitious when it comes to working on the midget, but I cant hold a candle to your forrest fire,,,,,looks awsome, your moving along vary well, i dont know that I would have taken on such a project, but your definatly earning your street cred to be the resident BBS structurle chassis expert.

keep up the great work, its looking great.

Thanks prop, good to know it might be ok!

Heres another pic as the first one doesnt seem to work!

This one is just after i had tacked it in place.

Rob,
I think it'll be fine, but just to put your mind at rest, what is worst that can happen?

in the case of it 'not being strong enough' how would it fail?
in my experience shell failure happens 'slowly' with lots of creaking and squeaking from the structure as cracks progress, and welds fail. This isn't going to be a rally car, and even K series aside I think that the repaired shell will be able to cope with the loads without demonstrating catastrophic (instantaneous failure). When you've finished and the car is on the road take the time to cast your eyes over the welds every few months and check that everything is happy.
It'll be much stronger than a rusty example.

The only exception is what happens during an accident, in which case the best argument is not to have one, and after than I'd rather be in a rebuilt shell with seam & plug welds than one with the odd rust hole and 30 year old spot welds here and there.

Im just a bit cautious as this is my first project and my only welding.

Thanks for easing the worry a little. Ill keep going and see where i end up.

Like you say, as long as i never crash, i wont need it to be "strong enough"!

All looks good to me!
:0)

It's natural to be nervous about your first few repairs but I suspect it will be more structurally sound now than it was when it left the BL factory.

Keep going, you're doing well.

I will copy the others
It is looking VERY promising
I dont see there being much of a strength issue with weld filling blown throughs either, it isnt as if youre bunging filler in the holes is it? Welded steel is still welded steel even if only welded to itself. When I taught myself "advanced body bodging with Mr MIG" I had loads of those at first. ( I had been lucky enough to have been trained in basic welding at work though, I admit)
Now many years later none of them have shown any "failures of strength" events.

Keep up the good work.
Bill

Thanks bill, thats just what i needed to hear! Im getting excited again about the project, i knew it would only take a few hours working on it to get the enthusiasm back - its a long winter!
