MG Midget and Sprite Technical - CAM Lobe Specs

I have looked and done a search and can't find the lobe specs for a standard cam. I have the caliper out and the first lobe measured is 1.344
This doesnt measure up with Haynes.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks,

HAHA Allen,

I have been there and done that!!! its tougher then you might think....luckly that was about 2 months ago, so should be some good info in....(The Archives...lol) In the words of YODA, the master jedi-knight... "A Wiki, Wiki we are a need of " lol.

Dont worry I wont send you to that land of treachery.

what you have to do is use the caliper to take several measurments

1. measure the top of the lobe to the bottom of the lube (under the shaft)
2. measure from the bottom of the shaft to the top of the lube
3. measure from the top of the shaft to the top of the lube on the bottom side
4. subtract the measurment from 2-3 and that will tell you the diameter of the shaft at that postion,
5. subtract the measurement of 4 (the shaft dia.)from number 1 and you will have the size of the lobe.

hope that makes scence...When I speced my orginal camshaft, I was horrified at the vast differances, Im surpised thae engine even ran.

OK, that helps, but it doesn't make sense, because the most wear on the cam would be on its greatest lift.
Well thats my thought anyway.

you can take your calculations and compare it to a chart like this and that will tell you how much wear it on the top of the lobe, there are alot of places like this...I just do a google search called A-series 1275 camshaft profile....you can get a number of these sites by using a varioation of the wording.

Is this the info what your looking for....beyound this, you will have to send it to a pro that deals in camshaft profils

hope that helps
