MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carb needle

Hi
I have converted to the HIF44 (midget mkiii 1275 1972)
I am having problems with the mixture.
Choke only needed to start but not continue running once started.I presume it is rich however,
The car basically runs and performs very well but after a run the plugs are like new,I thought a tan colour was needed. The plugs look as if they haven't been used.
I looked at a picture of a weak mixture on the internet
http://www.aa1car.com/library/reading_spark_plugs.jpg
I am worried my mixture is too weak.
I would be interested as to what needle people use
I have an mg metro head,md266 kent cam but basically the rest is standard.

Many thanks
Ian

I had a 1275 with kent 266 and std head. The BDL (which was the original MG Metro needle) was perfect.

I was actually trawling the archives yesterday on this subject for 1380s etc and the BDL comes up time and time again for the mildy tuned 1275.

Thank you I will try the BDL
