MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carb set up problem

My car is a 1972 standard 1275 midget. The engine idle speed was fast, 1100- 1200 rpm so I am trying to set up the carbs correctly. First time I've done this so following previous posts on the bbbs, I loosened the throttle interconnect, screwed the jets up to the bridge, then down 12 flats, balanced the hiss in each carb intake,by adjusting the throttle scews / listening thro a piece of tube. I then tweaked the mixture screws so that when the carb piston is lifted very slightly the engine speed increases. throttle interconnect now tightened, the engine nows idles slightly unevenly @ approx 800 to 900 rpm. when the throttle is now opened, the piston in the carb nearest the radiator is lifting a lot more than the other, with a big hiss / intake of air, minimal hiss thro the other carb.
What's wrong or what have I done wrong ??? Any advice greatfully recieved.

Maybe a suck eggs question, but have you checked the damper oil levels?
Graham.
Graham P 1330 Frogeye

Graham, thanks the damper oil level is o/k, after further investigation I spotted that the forked levers on the throttle linkage are out of adjustment, the rear one opens the throttle way before the other, it's back to the manual to find out how to adjust them.

Yes when you tighten up the connecting bar the 2 forks (one on each carb should be making a connection with each butterfly/ throttle shaft to ensure both open together.

For some reason a lot of people struggle with this relatively simple task but you seem to have it cracked and are nearly there!! :-)

I think you and robert are on the correct course...that really is a common problem....it only took me 6 weeks to learn that one. I do have another thought but its highly unlikely, if yo still have the same issue after adjustment...Ill share it with you. Other wise I dont want to confuse you
