MG Midget and Sprite Technical - chassis dimensions

Hello all,

A while ago whilst searching the archive I found a thread where somebody had posted some chassis dimensions "horizontal alignment check" which must have come from a factory manual.

Does anybody know where this info came from? and if there are more dims in the manual. What I have is very useful but it only really gives lateral position, not longitudinal or vertical. I'm really interested in suspension points, but other datums could be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark, not sure, it has the same dimensions as the sheet I attached, I just wondered if there were anymore. Perhaps that's it, I'll just have to rely on the tape measure.

Thanks for the link.

just had a look and your diagram comes from a later workshop manual

Tom what year of car is it for?

Hi Nigel,

Its a '72, round wheel arch, with semi elliptic rear springs.

Sorry Tom I thought I might have more info but I find it's the same as Mark's link

you might need to do more searching, sorry

Hello, Tom.

Guilty as charged... I posted that info a long time back, and it's still out there. Note that the pics came from the factory manual for the midget 1500, so there may be minor discrepancies with your '72, especially up front, where the ride height was changed.

I have a book called Motor vehicle Body Alignment Charts by Sydney Page which is great, but only covers cars up to 1969. I'll scan if you want.

Nice info Gryf! I am half tempted to see how badly wonky my body actually is. That said, maybe it's just best that I don't know...

Hello all, thanks for your replies.

Gryf, were there any more pages with dimensions in the manual?

John, yes please, if there are any dims for the midget that aren't on the diagram posted by Gryf. I've measured my car now, but its quite tricky to measure, I'd like some proper dimensions to check against.

Cheers

Tom, I am useless with a computer and cant get the scan small enough to post - ping me your e-mail to john@surveyingdevonandcornwall.co.uk and i'll send to you. There are a couple of different dimensions.
