MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch Hepl!!

Help,
Only 3 weeks till Sridget 50 US and I have no cluth.
1. Pedal doesn't feel stiff, but system has been bled and the slave moves close to 3/8"
Slave is new. I suspected master till I saw how much movement was at the slave.
How much should be enough?
The tranny won't go into gears. and if I turn the starter with the car in gear and clutch pedal depressed the car will move.

You should be able to look through the inspection hole in the bell housing whilst an operator does the pedal to see if you can see what's happeing inside.

On mine the bush in the fork pivot was very worn losing lots of movement and the eye of the slave push rod was also worn. Both will reduce the effect of any slave cylinder movement.

I think mine gives more than 3/8" though at the slave.

Phil, how long has the car been sitting idle? Clutch discs can rust to the flywheel from sitting and cause such problems. Check the archives, I'm sure this has been covered before and how to free them up without removing the engine. Sounds like you have plenty of movement in the slave.

This started a couple of weeks ago and I'm sure that the disk/flywheel are free.
I'm thinking I'll have to get it jacked up enough to get under it while son pushes the pedal and see what I can see see see.

I just ordered a new M/C
I realy think the problem must be hydraulic and the slave is new.
The prospect of towing it to the shop I trust (20 miles) and than paying thru the
a$$%#@* is not something I want to think about.
I should have the new M/C by Monday.
I won't start worrying about Spidget 50 US till I decide its an engine out clutch replacement.

is there any chance the fluid got low and you got air in the system....Mmmm did you get all the air out when you put the new slave on the car....I find on slaves and masters...it helps to bench bleed them 1st....put in a soft jaw vice pour in some fluid in both holes and work it till it is funtional...clean it up and install it.
