MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch Paranoia

Having had the engine out three times in the last nine months - all clutch-related - I have developed a sensitivity to the clutch which is taking over my life.

On a little run today, I started to feel a scrape as I pressed the pedal, and then I began to hear it too! It's intermittent.

So, what I want to know is, which side of the fluid is the problem? Can the fluid transmit vibration, friction etc. in full detail to my foot? Or is it in the pedal box?
Nick

Nick, your not alone with the "clutch paranoia Flue".
Mine started in 2006 when the K was in.
Ive developt an over-sensitivety for sounds/vibrations or whatever when i drive my midget.
Its slowly killing me but working on the clutch at the moment should hopefully give me the rest of mind i so badly need! LOL
Arie de Best

yup, fluid is a really good transmitter of sound.

Nick,

look at the clevis pin (pull it out) as it may not be visable installed and look for wear and grooving, also look into the bottom of the resivior for some black goo-slime.

You think your hearing sensitivity is bad now, wait till you look in the mirror and see your ears actually moving and twittching as the car makes various sounds...it will happen just wait.

OMG, I agree w/ Prop.
Pull out the clevis and examine the pin and the hole it goes thru. A simple, but easily overlooked problem that can save tons of $ and lots of agrivation.

Notice the Key phrase is "PULL Out the pin" just a fast look at the pin installed will not show any problems.

If your on the 3 syncro box it's your carbon bearing, don't worry about it too much, your have the box out before that wears due to the cogs mullering themselves as soon as they look at a bit of power. I've been through 5 or 6 boxes before i went for a T9, now i can drive the car as i want not around the chocolate gearbox.

Thanks everybody (I think).

The vibration feel/ noise through the pedal might be the spigot bush breaking up... they can split into 2 parts and then grab/release the crank-end / box input shaft when you press the clutch.

Happened for me anyway... sometimes felt like an 'electric shock' through the pedal... was intermittent for me, BTW
