MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch problems with 5 speed conversion
Hello everyone, So the 5 speed conversion is obviously of great use for everyday modern driving which is what the car is used for. However no matter what I try, the clutch is intermitantly failing to properly engage. After a few pumps and swear words it usually complies. Pretty simple stuff. However, the plot thickens. It only really causes a problem when the weather is hot. Also I have taken apart the release bearing and checked the stability and condition of every aspect of the clutch system, have added about a centimetre onto the clutch rod plus I have bled it several times to rule out an air leak. My conclusions lead me towards the possibility that I need either a bigger master cylinder or a smaller slave cylinder to assist the hydraulic compression. Does this sound familiar or logical? Please bear in mind that this problem comes and goes and the only potential influencing factor I have found is the weather! Any suggestions? Yours clutchlessly, Jonny

- Who suplied the kit?( many versions out there) - 1275 or 1500? On my first trip to Scotland in 2000(in my 1500) the release arm got stuck on the shaft/cylinder in the belhousing. Seems the arm needed some extra metall removed around the bearing to give it enough swung.

>>>>>>>> It only really causes a problem when the weather is hot<<<<<<< change out the rubber clutch hose to a stainless steel braided line. change out and up the brake fluid to a DOT4 Re- run the hose so that it isnt picking up as much heat from the engine/tranny/exhause system.... postion the line so its getting better cold air flow. Move to the ant-artic...much cooler weather there. just a few Ideas if its only happening during the hottest of days prop
