MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Colourtune help

Hi all,
Been a while since I used my colortune on my 1275 A series 1972 Mk III midget and have also moved house.
Opened the box and all the bits are there APART from the gastight washer. . Is it OK to run an ordinary sparkplug washer here ( I have a back up set) or must I go back to gunsons & beg or buy a new special gunson washer. Indeed do I need the washer at all _ I can't remember!
Cheers all

Im just guessing ...

But id think the washer does 2 things, maybe 3

Keeps the cly spark plug hole surface from being scared and torn up

Provides a gripping source to keep the spark plug from loosing up

And last maybe, but not likely but could be an issue with the color tune....a sealing source so gases cant escape

If it were me and no other insight from someone more knowledgeable...id try a fiber washer, or a copper crush washer, or just a flat washer (alumiunm ??)

If it had a washer, theres a reason for it, otherwise colortune wouldnt have wasted the cash.

Just my 2 cents

I'll have a look at mine tomorrow, but I recall it's a copper o-ring. I think it does the same job as the washer on the regular spark plug, but perhaps being copper, it makes for a good heat conductor?

You do need a washer to make a good seal, but I don't think you'll go wrong using a spark plug washer.

Personally I have never got on with Colortune or similar products. Too great a margin of error for me. Stick to the SU manual in association with other signs such as exhaust note, running temperature etc. for setting mix - you cannot go far wrong.
