MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Cross flow water pump hose - no bypass
Has anyone has a crossflow radiator in their Sprite and have blanked off the bypass and plugged that part of the hose? The reason I ask is that I have 3 silicone hoses that have been made without the bypass take off on that Crossflow water pump hose for sale. Drop me an e-mail. |

I'm confused. The the water pump bypass is an individual pipe between pump and head. The bottom hose can have a heater take off or not for heater delete models. Is it different between vertical and cross flow? Rob |

I did exactly that for a while on my 1275. Used a a short stub of hose with a bolt in it from the head connection. I cannot off hand remember exactly why, but I was probably following Vizard advice, or maybe some other Tuning Sprites & midgets book! I do know that some later A series heads don't have the connection anyway. |

All Metro A series and most later A series Mini engines had a head that didn't have a by-pass port. Still confused by Daniels description. Rob |

I think early A+ heads did have the tapped hole for a bypass, but were fitted with a blanking plug. I used to buy the plugs from Roversport/Unipart for blanking off earlier non-A+ heads. I probably still have a couple somewhere. I think Daniel is probably meaning the heater take-off. |

It was me really. I thought when Daniel mentioned the by pass hose he meant the little one, sometimes convoluted, connecting head to water pump. |

Sorry, I did mean the heater take off! |

For completeness, this is the bypass blanking plug for the cylinder head - 88G619. The theory is that you unscrew the stub for the bypass hose, but that is easier said than done. ![]() |
