MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Engine refitting

Not that far yet, still waiting for a useable gearbox layshaft, but is it possible to insert the engine and gearbox as an assembly with the bonnet in place?

I do have a good engine crane and load leveller

Or is it better (like in the MGA) to install them separately?

Dominic Clancy

I've always removed the bonnet.

I prefer to fit and remove the engine and gearbox separately, but others prefer to do them as a single unit.

You can install togather or sperate....but you CAN NOT install the engine 1st then the gear box later

Crane and load leveler are best in my opinion.

Bonnet comes off unless your a master midget

Dominic you might just get away with it, the bonnet will prop open further with a stick, and the leveller will make a difference. The lifting strops will need to be fastened as short as possible.
