MG Midget and Sprite Technical - filling and seam sealing

OK. I'm still a long way off even priming my car as I'm in the middle of a pretty massive rebuild. However, I figure it's best to get things done in the right order so here goes..
At some point I'll need to apply dum-dum paste (or similar) as seam sealer and I'll most likely need to use a little filler to get all the panels a smooth as possible. The big quistion is, at what point? Do I apply the dum-dum before priming, After etch but before filler primer? Same with the filler.

Any thoughts?

I used red stripe seam sealer before paint to bright metal & filler after high build primer.

I applied etch primer immediately after sandblasting. Seam sealer was done after all panel work was finished and before painting commenced.

Thanks for the advice.

Another question....
The new panels have all come pre-primed in a black paint. Is it best to remove all this paint before applying the etch primer?

Yes, it flakes.
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

thanks Brad.

Graeme,
The seam sealer stays flexible so I wouldn't want to put filler on top of it. Seems to work well with paint on it though so maybe not a worry.
BTW, a good source of seam sealer near us is Refinishing Services, http://www.refinishingservices.co.uk/ I've used them for painting stuff & they do Tiger seal which sticks like sh!t to anything it touches! it comes in a sealant tube so quite easy to apply to long seams, even upside down! (guess how i know that...)
They also do paint matching, etc and have always been really friendly when I'm in there, both for the golf and with the midget - always willing to give advice and don't seem to push expensive products onto you.
Hope that helps,

Thanks for that craig, I'll give them a look. Mind you, their website suggests they'll only sell paint to trade customers - do you know if that's true?

the seam sealer and filler questions were unrelated. I'll not be trying to fill over the seam sealer, Honest guv ;-)

Yeah, they'll sell to anyone, cash or card sales. not sure about celulose, etc, maybe that's what they mean. I've only used them to get rattle cans mixed but they're certainly happy to serve me. Best avoid early in the morning as they're busy with trade customers getting paint matched for body shops. I find they're perfectly willing to spend half an hour or more discussing painting etc on a friday afternoon!
