MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Filter King

Anyone had a similar issue with a Filter King fuel regulator on a 1500?

After fitting an electric fuel pump years ago I added a cheap regulator but I always suffered from a small amount of fuel overflow from the front carb.

After fitting the Filter King which I hoped had a much finer adjustment, I kept adjusting lower and lower to find the lowest acceptable pressure, but after the car has been stopped for a few minutes after a run, the pressure in the fuel line appears to build up and the fuel floods out of the front carb until the pressure has dropped.

I've tried different needle/valve seats in the front fuel chamber, adjusted the float but nothing stops the surge in fuel through the top of the chamber after a couple or three minutes after the engines turned off, any ideas?

(The fuel pressure is now much lower than in the photo and has not got much further reduction to go)

it might be easier / simpler to fit a fuel pump of the correct pressure rating - e.g. the Facet Silver Top comes with different internal springs to suit the required pressure.

Thanks for the info David may well be worth looking at.
I checked yesterday what pressure the fuel regulator is set at and it's only at 1psi, so looks like the new float, needle and seats in the carbs recently replaced are not working well.

Might just pay to check the pressure just after turning the engine off as well
Had an Alfa with webers on it once that the owner said flooded after turnoff and fitted a gauge to the line to adjust the filter adjuster--adjusted it to the spec, can't remember but think it was about 4psi but just after turning the engine off it'd spike up to around 7 then drop back, ended up being a faulty filter head weeping past the regulator while there was still full pressure in the line to the filter-

Cheers Willy, sounds exactly the same as my issue.

I ran the car for a few mins at the weekend and the pressure just dropped gently after turning off, dropping to 0psi with no leak from carb front bowl, but need to check it after a decent run when the pressure has built up.
