MG Midget and Sprite Technical - front wheel arch flares

Can anyone suggest a plastic wheel arch spat to cover a small projection of the front wheel? Has anyone tried mini bits?

thanks
d cusworth

I tried the plastic Mini 'eyebrows' for fit....... they sort of fit, but don't look right........ so my tyres stick out, at least for the time being

The early style VW Golf GTIs had a plastic wheel arch extension that might be close to the size needed. I know the steel arches from these cars are a popular add on to MGBs with wider wheels.

Thanks, Have a look at the picture. something like this is what i was thinking of.

or this!

You said plastic, are you running a fiberglass front clip? If not and you have steel then it's not too hard to form some nice flares in the steel to match the rear, including the small lip at the edge. I cut a 3/4" wide band around the front opening and then pulled the top out about 1 1/2" and filled the gap with small patch pieces formed to the best shape I could make. Then a little (ok a lot) filler to smooth it all out. Covers up 205s on 7" wheels just fine.

The pictures you show 'd' are both Mini items. the first in Aluminium I think were made by Cosmic, the second were readily available some years ago from your local tuning shop... not sure now.

I'd love to source a set of these japanese midget arches. Not sure what they came from though!

Not much help I know sorry.

I'm in favour of cutting and reshaping existing. It's possible to put a subtle flare on arches that looks standard at first glance yet makes the car look slightly meaner. Don't forget a little -ve camber puts the tyres into the arch a little. And don't forget you may need also to mod the inner arch...

Anthony, i have recently taken out most of my neg camber as i trying ACB10 which i have been told need much less than radials.

they are very different than yokos or kumhos!

Is this the sort of thing you are thinking of?

Where did you get those from? Very sublte and nice!
Rob McGeown

I made them myself, I would be more than willing to guide anyone through the process if they wanted to have a go.

C Bintcliffe

I'm all ears Carl!

I got a set of wheel arches from minisport, but they were close, but not close enough!

I don't need large flairs an inch would be fine.
