MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frontline Susp with Big Brake Kit

Hi
I am building a Bugeye with a 13B rotary and am adding a Frontline Arms and was planning on using the Spitfite rotors with Wilwood Calipers. I purchased the Huffaker spacers and the rotor interferes with the lower part of the upper suspension arm when the unit is at full steering lock. Was wondering if any of you have run into this?
Thanks,
Ed

Oh yes, get your grinder out & put a substantial chamfer on the FL top link.

Ed,

do you have any pictures? Always been fascinated by the idea of a rotary in a midget. Same size (1.3 but just a bit different on power output!)

Thanks

There was an SCCA "Midget" at the Lake of the Ozarks 50th Celebration. Huge supercharger on top of a 13B in a fiberglass body. Claimed over 400HP. For sale... Set fast time of the day in the autocross, despite being too tight of a course for the car (the owner of the car was the guy who tweaked the course (SCCA Safety Steward) ;-) ISTR it used a Mazda rear axle, too; I know for SURE it was not a Spridget axle!

Thanks Ed,

looking great.
What Midget bits are you using and what Mazda bits?
You'll need to recalibrate the tacho to show 9k as the new limit!
Love rotary engines - all engines should be rotaries, unbeliveable to drive behind.

The car is a mix match of parts. The engine is an 88 13 B which is going to run a Dellorto side draft 48. That engine will be replaced with a ported 13b which should be about 220 HP. The trans is from a first generation RX7 with a B2000 Pick up truck tailhousing. (Comes through the stock hole) The rear end is 85 RX7 GSL, limited slip, disc brakes. The nose is a fiberglass unit from Spridgetech, the rear flares I made myself since the SCCA ones were too narrow. Front Suspension is Frontline with Konis, the brakes are Spitfire rotors with Wilwood Calipers. The master cylinders are modified by Speedwell in California and run two tilton brake masters and a clutch master. Gauges are Autometer in a stock dash.

They would appear to go quite well with the Mazda engine!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJmuXKdzcmc

A quick youtube search for sprite rotary shows up a suprising number results. It also led me to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYdJ-G3Blp8&feature=PlayList&p=7BE1EF80A8959D99&index=6 I had seen photos of this car before but I had never seen or better still heard it in the move, Awesome!

The nice thing about the rotary is is adds almost no weight, so the car's handling and suspension isn't affected. It is really a pretty simple conversion, although like any engine swap it gets pricey quickly. The can be blindingly quick.

Hi Ed,

sorry it's been a while. The rotary is a light and powerful little beauty and probably weighs less than the all iron engine in the midget.
Love the Mazda units - effectively only two moving parts and elegantly simple.
You should have a real stormer in the making there and one which looks to all intents and purposes relatively stock... until you put yur foot down!
Happy Christmas - keep posting the pictures so we can see your progress.

that weight issue is part of the reason the K-series is so populair on this side of the pond
it weighs less than the A-series.

though nothing compares to the sound of a good siamees port engine
