MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel pump question.

Sorry, I meant fuel tank.

I just checked the inside of my fuel tank and it is in worse condition than I had hoped. Probably due to the car being stored for many years with no fuel in it.

After checking prices it seems to me that a new tank makes more sense than trying to clean and repair/seal the current one.

My question is this. Are there any suggestions on where to buy a new tank? I see that the Moss tank is over $200 by itself and the VB tank kit is $200 with a new sending unit and fastener items. Has anyone had any experience with either or is there a different source I should look into?

Thanks for any help.

I bought one from ebay at it seems well made and fit fine.

I would look into a bigger one if you are doing a change ...

Thanks Trev, I will check that out.
Rach, do you know of any sources for larger cap tanks? A couple extra gallons might not be a bad idea.

Hi Tom,

How big is your present tank? I bought a replacement for my 1500 a few years ago from VB and had some issues and ended up taking it off. It isn't vented and also the gage in the car didn't read correct after I put it in. If you're interested, let me know and maybe we cn work something out. I'm in Lake Geneva.

Hi Tim,
My tank is the original tank and whatever capacity that would be. I had to stop in at Peter C's (World Wide Auto) to pick up some other parts this morning and he is checking some tanks for me. I was told to forget the VB tank.
Peter was trying to talk me into keeping my old tank and cleaning it out and coating the inside. I still am inclined to replace it.

Tom,

Would you be going to Road America for the SVRA race? I can throw the tank into the trailer for you to take a look at if you'd like.

I cut an old tank apart with the idea of derusting and sealing another tank. The problem I found is the pick up. It is fastened to the baffle and isn't accessible. The screen was so fine I thought the sealer would plug the screen. I bought a tank on eBay instead.

that fuel cell is not a bad idea, they arent all that expensive as i thought, with foam insert and sending unit around $200 for an 8 gallon on ebay, and they are vary similar in size 20" long, 15 Inches wide, 8 inches deep and they are made out of poly plastic, so never agian rust, and they got all kinds of shapes and sizes for diffreat applications from drag racing, to oval to road course, and they use (8-AN fittings...Nice)

plus you can get bigger cells also

I only looked up the company called JAZ

Thanks for all the ideas. I decided to have Peter get one for me. A fair price and he will make a little too. He has helped me a few times so it all works out.

Tim, won't be there this year but hope to have our midget done and be there next year for the 50th year of Midget's.

Hi Prop, the poly tank sounds interesting.

Was busy today. Got my rear spring bushings and spring pads in, went with poly. Made a tool to get the pesky bump stop installed on one side of my rear axle. Also got one of Peter's rebuilt shocks on. The other side will wait until I install the SU pump and Facet backup pump. I even put new plugs, cap, and rotor in our TR6 and washed it. Tomorrow I will pull the Midget rear hubs to check the bearings and replace the hub seals. There are already new brake shoes, drums, and wheel cylinders and I will replace the brake lines and hose. The fuel tank will be here next week and that will finish up the rear underside of the car. And finally, after a year, it will have the wheels back on and be off the jack stands.

Then u=joints and a freshening for the transmission. Then an inspection of the engine. It was professionally rebuilt several years ago but never back in the car. Figure after sitting for so long I better at least look inside.
