MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Grommets
On all steel Frogeye bonnets there is a small hole underneath each headlamp to allow a screw to be put into the headlamp assembly to secure the finishing headlamp rim. It has just occurred to me to question whether these holes were originally fitted with a rubber bung (or blanking grommet) or just left empty. Does anybody know for sure, or has anybody ever found the remains of a bung in place of a really original car? G |

Gus - You're not talking about that water drain hole, are you? -:G:- |

On mine .....its a press punched hole with 2 small ears that extend out the back (okay upward) that have several cut threads on each ear and the screw is secured there....I ended up using a platic wall anchor and sticking it into the hole for the screw to secure into after breaking of one of the ears off ...works well for me, and does much better job holding the chrome ring in place. prop |

The hole I'm talking about is the one immediately under the headlamp. It would drain water (but where to) but its main purpose must be to provide some access to drive in the screw that secures the headlamp rim. Should it have a grommet (plug), or was it BMC's intention to leave it open? G |
