MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Halogene headlamp conversion

After 17 years of weekly use the 7 inch reflectors of my halogen headlamps have rusted away. Years ago I had bad experience with Wipac plastic ones. I am looking for LHD H4 glass ones without pilot . What shall I buy and where?

Hi Flip. I have used three pairs of these Cibie (Valeo) H4 lights on three different cars and found them to be consistently excellent. The beam pattern is very superior to the Wipac ones and the reflectors seem to be long lasting. The ones on my MGB are 8 years old and show no deterioration at all. The light output is superior to my modern VW. Here is where I buy them

If you look under the "Choose an Option" box you will see that they can be supplied with or without a pilot lamp and in LHD or RHD form.

Larkspeed have reasonably priced Cibies, although they don't include a bulb, but the price does include VAT.

It doesn't say if they do them in LHD, but it may be worth contacting them.

As they come without bulbs, you could fit some Osram Nightbreakers

Edit: Europa don't say that theirs include bulbs, either.

Same as Mike, replaced the rusty Wipac units with the Cibie's - far better light and better units.
Think I obtained mine from Larkspeed also.

My bulbs were separate supply - can't remember the details but similar to the units Dave has highlighted.

The best Cibies were the Biodes, no longer available - had a set that were fantastic - now fetch a fortune on E bay for classic escort rally cars and I think early 911's

The Cibies from Europa don't come with bulbs either.

I don't know why that posted twice.

Now that I'm on a 'proper' computer, I've used the Amazon translation...

"This seller does not deliver to the UK - Mainland.

Only 1 left in stock."

Ihr Deutsch is ziemlich gut. Besser als Elvis. (Wooden Heart).😊 Translator's good innit?

"is Valeo and Cibie with the same"

A good question Flip. My lights, all three sets, have Cibie Iode H4 moulded on the lens, but came in Valeo boxes. So I don't know the answer.

From the Demon Tweeks web site :-

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/cibie-performance

Valeo being the group, Cibie a specialist division.

I ordered the Cibies in Germany With Philips X-treme vision 130%. Thank you gentlemen!

I changed from Lucas to Cibie/Valo and Philips X-treme, The result is astonishing! Much much more light, a sharp difference between the zone with and without light if I use the dimmed light. I never realized that my prince of darkness
(Magneto Marelli with H4) was that bad.

Do you have relays fitted?
Dave O'Neill 2

Yes Dave. Relay's, and 2,5 mm cables (expensive), earth and lead, without connections, I soldered the cables. I measured a difference from 11 Volt (original new cable tree) to 13,4 Volt (Now). So 600 to 1200 lumen. I did this job in 2011.

I used Cibies too with "illegally" bright bulbs, Can't remember what the bulb was but they're fab! My MOT tester said "what great headlights for an old car!"
