MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Have I fried my battery?

I left my battery on charge by accident for 2 1/2 days. Charger doesn't seem to have cut out and there is water/acid all over the case and on the shelf. Throw it away or top up with water again?
Thanks.

John, you probably have caused the battery to produce excess sulfates, but it still may work after it is cycled. Top off the cells with distilled water and try measuring the output. If it's below 12V then it's cooked. If not then it's worth a try, you still may have to replace it, so remember that and plan on a possible failure for the first couple of days of use. Don't want to be too far away from home or the AA.

Just to add....USE "distilled water" as bill points out...not tap water...big differance...you can get distilled water from the run off of a window air conditioner, or a large food store by the gallon.

You Eeejit!

Are you using a proper conditioning battery charger? I thought I saw the same one I use in your camper? Might have belonged to Tim Storrar, but it was a Ctek - they won't fry batteries.
