MG Midget and Sprite Technical - headlight switch removal?

I lost my low beams on the right side of my 74. I replaced the light, no help there. How do you remove the switch on the dashboard? I don't want to bugger it up prying it out with a screwdriver, is there some catch on it? I have wiggled and jiggled each lead on the fuse box too, might regret that later I suppose.

Thanks!
Tom Nelson

If it's not working on one side only try the fuse first, however, there is a integral clip each side of the switch. you need to pinch them in behind the dash before puling the switch forward.

If you've only lost one side, it ain't the switch.

Chances are you've got a loose or corroded bullet connector behind the grill.

Check the blue wire with a red tracer.

I had similar problem with side lights. I checked the glass fuse was intact, and then all the connections, I was left scratching my head. It wasn't until I checked the continuity of the fuse with a meter that I fount the fault. Just because you can see the fuse wire is intact through the glass, it doesn't mean that the fuse is good. Lesson learned.

"low beams" are headlights, so not fused.

I agree with Dave if it is simply only one side and the bulb is proved fine hen it can only be a poor connection in a bullet connector.
If it was an earth fault it would also affect the high beam and if it was the column mounted dip switch then it would affect both side low beams

Dave, nice tone, I stand corrected. I said I had a similar problem not the same problem. As stated in previous threads, I am a mechanical guy and auto electrics are a mystery to me and I am learning all the time, your knowledge is far superior, must be nice for you.
P Ottewell

Sorry if my 'tone' offended you, I was simply stating a fact.

I don't know what you stated in previous threads as I don't have time to read them all and I wouldn't necessarily remember everything you said.

All I do know is that you mentioned fuses in two of your posts, so I wasn't sure that you understood the original post.
Dave O'Neill2

Dave, I need to apologise not you, I'm a grumpy old sod at times. The original thread mentioned the fuse box, and jumped to my experience with the side lights,on the morning of the MOT no less. I didn't know that the headlights aren't fused, so I've learned something else. Again apologies.

OK, no problem.
