MG Midget and Sprite Technical - HIF 44 conversion

I have got my hif44 carb and filter now and the abutment plate and spacer are on their way. I know I need a manifold but what else do I need to complete the conversion? Will the existing throttle (slightly longer - from a mini) and choke cables be ok?
A couple of other questions, this is the first hif44 I have handled and it looks to be in good condition with little, if any, wear in the throttle spindle. The choke mechanism, however, takes some time to shut off, it does not spring closed like the old HS carbs. Is this normal?
Also, what would you recommend regarding overhauling it? Do it just because I have it on the bench and a running car with perfectly good twin HS2s or if it ain't broke, don't fix it, slap on the HIF and see?
Being a libran, I can see both sides of each argument.
Have a good weekend.
Thanks
Dave

Look here - it lists all the parts you need.

If you have a Metro heat shield you may want to use the Metro throttle cable as it has a plastic thing on the end that slots into the heat shield. You will also need a longer choke cable.

Hi Dave, I'm sure that my HIF44 has a spring on the choke to close it.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that mine does too

I used my original throttle cable but the choke was too short. All the new choke cables need cutting to length so will fit in my experience.

Choke should spring shut so sounds like it may be gummed up somewhere.

I have a choke knob and from a 57 Chevrolet of all things (at least a reproduction of one) and I seem to remember that it was about 6 foot long before I cut it down.

My Midget choke cable fits the HIF

just

with a rather tight corner to go round at the HIF connection

I am using the standard Metro assembly plate with its springy clip (through a thin slot and clipped over the edge to lock it)
