MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Horny question !

The 1098cc Mk 2 midget I am restoring came with no horns. Can someone kindly tell me the correct place to mount them ? Thanks !

in front of the radiator, low down in the trough behind the front valance panel.

Looking down where David said (you will need to remove the grille to see), there are 4 bolt heads, bolts that hold the front body work to the frame rails. Each horn is on a "Z" shaped steel bracket which is attached to the body by one of those bolts.

or if you get a car similar to the one I have just repurchased you will see loads of empty holes where the previous owner saw fit not to replace any of the bolts!

Thanks guys. My parts books show a choice of three different types of horn bracket e.g. in the Moss Europe catalogue, including the Z type one, so I'm still a tad confused.
I notice that on my car the uprights that the front panel bolts to are different, in that one has two threaded holes with captive nuts at the bottom front, but the other does not. Is that where the horn bracket goes and does it mean the car only had one horn, not two?

some horns come with brackets anyway

on my 1275 I took the rad grille out and fitted the horn brackets to the flat side panels that are level with the bottom of the rad grille so they sit pointing to the middle about a third(?) up from the bottom of the radiator

I think each side panel had two captive nuts for the proper horn brackets

the horns are hung under the brackets so that they sit in the recess out of the direct flow to the rad

does this make sense? - no good me taking a photo as all is covered in black waxoyl on my car

but I'm not sure this makes any difference as sure the air is blocked by the horns getting to the bottom of the rad and anyway the X-flow normally overcools

I've also faced my horns in, towards the rad so that the sound perhaps amplifies in the chamber and/or reflects off the rad, again I'm not sure this makes any difference to facing them out of the car

Hi MWS,
I'm having to scrap a MK 11, it's going next week - contact me on chicochapman@yahoo.com if I can help.
