MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Inertia reel seat belts

After 35 years I am going to ditch the static seat belts on the Frogeye. I installed mountings as per the original factory option belts, ie on top of the wheel arches, and on the rear floor either side of the seat. As these are welded in I would prefer to use them to mount the inertia reel belts. Will the standard Mk 3 Sprite belts fit these mountings? I've searched for relevant pictures and can't find anything very helpful.

They should fit. But I think you need to get an extra mounting bracket which holds the inertia unit at the right angle for it to work properly. Without it, the unit locks up and won't release the belt when you try and put it on.

I have Securon inertias in both my Frog & Elan. The reels each have a couple of adjustment screws that enable them to be installed in any orientation without the lock-up issue that Guy describes.

yep, or get some universal style inertia belts that you can set the locking angle on a little thing on the side. As long as the little rotating thing is set right they work really well.

These are the ones I have, both in the MG and in the back of the P6.

Actually, the ones I have fitted are ex-Fiat, and also have the adjustable setting mechanism for both fore and aft and side to side tilt. But I was answering the question about the "Standard MK 3 belts", which I think need the bracket that I mentioned.

But I do agree, I think the adjustable variety are the better option.

Thanks guys - the main criteria are to have the long floor stalk for ease of clipping in the long belt (and to minimise damage to the upholstery), and to get the reel angle right using the exiting anchorages. The generic Securon ones are probably the best bet.

Hi

Do you have a two bolt upper seat belt mounting on the top of the wheelrach, like
http://gerardsgarage.com/Garage/Tech/SeatBeltWS.htm

If so you need to make up a plate to convert to a single bolt fitting
