MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Magnetronic Igntion ??

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has fitted the "Lumenition Magnetronic" ignition system that replaces points in your origonal distributor.

I am considering this for my 1500 midget Im interested in hearing peoples opinions / expereince before I commit.

Is it worthwhile ?

Thanks for your time.

Before fitting my programmable ignition to my Midget I had the Lumenition Magnetronic fitted for about the last 10 years. It was and is certainly fit and forget.

You just have to remember to shave a bit off the bottom of the rotor arm, so it doesn't rub on the cap.

Hi,

After shopping around, found Lumenition Magnetronic points replacement to be coming in at £70 to £80...

However, Britpart manufacture one for a lot less for 45D distributors... found the info on the MGB section of this BBS.

Ordered it from a Landrover parts supplier... £12 all in it arrived this morning very quick.

Looks neat too as it comes with its own rotor arm that has the trigger built in so no add on disc as with magnetronic... and at only £12 all in worth ordering a spare.

I will let you know how it goes once installed.

Hi,

Update as promised..........

Fitted unit in distributor..very straight forward, works a treat... car started straight away... checked dwell angle as a precaution.... was prety close at 54deg.... tweaked it to 52deg...

Runs very smoothly... hopefully... very relaible too ?..

All for only £12... significantly cheaper than Luminition want for the same thing at £70 .....

Part Number is Britpart ETC5835K.

Fits the 1500 45D distributor, for any one who may be interested.

Hopefully a improved reliability, since even condensers apparently "aint what they used to be !!" I have heard of people going through three "new" condensors in very short order.... all faulty / failing quickly.

It sounds remarkably good value.

Any more info on the supplier?

FWIW I've just fitted the Britpart unit to my MGB and I can also report that it works every bit as good as the pertronix (Aldon) Ignitor units I've used before.

I bought mine from MM 4x4 for 8.85 inc VAT. At that price it's not much dearer than a set of points and a condensor!

Does anybody kmow if a similar kit is available for the 25D4 Dizzy?
I Pickering

MM 4x4 don't sell them, but the kits are available on eBay:

Even though he's dearer than 4x4 it's still not a bad price for electronic ignition.
Mike

That link is not working But I will have a look on eBay Thanks

Got my £12 quid kit fitted tonight, lets see how long it lasts!
D Tetley

Got mine too but currently mid way through a front sus rebuild so will wait til she's back out & about before fitting.
I notice that the sender collar is attached to the rotor arm. Does it come off or are we looking at a new assembly when the rotor arm gets worn. Not actualyl sure they wear but i imagine that they do with all the arcing going on. any thoughts anyone?

I would buy the Aldon system had one now for many years, no problems at all with it.
Brad (Sprite IV 1380)

I'm interested in one of these but will it work with the RVI rev counters as I seem to remember some electronic ignitions prefering the later RVC units?

Aldon & RVI are OK.
