MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Megajolt- EDIS mounting

Having tested the EDIS system I now want to mount it into the car. Can those who have fitted the Megajolt tell me where they mounted the coil pack and EDIS module. A pic would be helpful too. ('71 1275)

Hi, I fitted the EDIS where my dynamo cut off box was, on the scuttle above the pedal box. the coil pack was fitted on the pedal box cover plate.

good luck!

I don't think the plug leads to the coil pack are long enough to allow me to site the coil pack there. I'm still on dynamo so fitting the EDIS module to the bulkhead isn't an option. I'll look in more detail this afternoon now that the chores are done!

You realy should have a alternator fitted. running electronics / big sparks will run best 13 volts and not dipping down to 11v especialy with cooling fans and headlights etc. an alternator gives peace of mind. i bought some fiesta leads which were too long and shortened them.
danny

I reckon I can fit the coil pack on the pedal cover plate after a trial fit. I've just had to fit a new genrator and control box so won't be doing the alternator conversion this year. They failed just before Gaydon so had no time to get the bits together for an alternator conversion.

Steve,
If you're running a dynamo, does that mean your car is positive earth? Will Megajolt and the EDIS gubbins work with that polarity?

What have you used for the crank sensor and trigger wheel?

Mark
M Crossley

Mark, it's a 1971 1275, just before they started fitting alternators. It is negative earth.
The Ford EDIS system uses a magnetic sensor, this senses 36 'teeth' (actually 35 'cos one is removed as a TDC indication) that I had machined in the crank pulley when I had the engine out over the winter. The EDIS bits needed are the sensor, coil pack and control module from a Ford.

I mounted the coil pack on the pedal box cover but found that the bonnet stay fouls the coil terminals. I am going to have to make a plate to get the coil pack moved inboard about an inch or so.

ah! my midge has a flip front!

steve, do you have a throttle pot fitted? what did you use? on what carb?
danny

Steve, did you get your running issues sorted?
Nick

Nick,
I swapped out the Lumenition Optronic for standard points. I had no problems on a 70 mile club run afterwards. May not have been a comprehensive test but perhaps a step forward. The distributor shaft is a bit worn so the timing at low revs is a bit erratic, so I thought it would be time to install the Megajolt I've had hanging around for a while.
Steve Church

Great!

I'm interested in this project! keep us all updated.
Nick

I fitted my coil pack on the pedal box cover plate as you are thinking Steve. Made a tidy job of the installation.

The Electonic unit I mounted inside the car on the tunnel. I have this aera boxed in which hides it nicely

I have mounted the coil pack on the pedal box cover but had to move it inboard about an inch to avoid the bonnet stay hitting the outer plug lead socket. I made a new plate for this. I have mounted the EDIS controller on the inner wing just above the brake light switch. I intend to mount the control box under the dash on the drivers side. I need to add two fused supplies for the EDIS and control box. I'm thinking of adding an auxilliary fuse box as this will make 4 in line fuses. A busy week this week then a away on hols so may not finish for a couple of weeks. Should be able to lash something together to test before then tho'.
