MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget telescopic shock absorbers
Hi, Im currently in the process of fitting telescopic shock absorbers to the front of my 1500 midget, having already completed the rear, which I'm extremely happy with. I am making laser cut steel brackets in order to fit them and will post pics of the results once completed. As most of you will know, the existing conversion kits are very expensive (around £600 for both front and rear). Im considering making a few extra sets of brackets, and may even put together an entire kit if there is enough interest. Obviously this would be available for much less than the ones currently available. Cheers Mike |

Interested drop me a mail with cost involved. Simon. |

Why not fit mini shocks to the back, I used the strap location point and big washers with no problems. I got a set of eBay for next to nothing, and they seem ok so far Cheers Neil |

You are correct Neil, as I said I've already completed this on the rear, and found that the front now really needs doing to balance the car properly. It is the front conversion that is much more difficult and needs the brackets made in order for the conversion to be completed. Pics to follow. Cheers Mike |

Mike, I think the most important things to do with any front shock conversion is to triangulate the top swinging arm and replace the fulcrum pin arrangement with a bearing of some sort. If you can include these elements into your design, people will snatch them off you. |

Mike, I'd be interested. Keep us informed of your progress. Steve |

Thing is as Bob T pointed out: The frontline kit (designed by a member of this board I might add) is so good because it provides a proper upper wishbone and adds in some negative camber. The adjustable tube shocks are only really a bonus. The first two items are what make for great handelling and improved braking. |

Take this with a grain of salt, because I've never performed any mods to my suspension beyond poly bushes and a heavier ARB - rumor has it that a stiff damper behind the wishbone can impart a twist to the wishbone during operation, eventually causing fatigue and failure. Again, I'm only reporting what I've read previously. If it ain't true, disregard! Cheers, -:G:- |
