MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Need a small metal turning job done

I need a small metal turning job done - can anyone help.

What I want to create is an adjustable clutch slave push rod. I already have a threaded eye section (aircraft part AN45?).

What I need now is about a 2 3/4" inch long push rod which is fatter at one end by about 3/4 inch (and possibly knurled) sufficient to be tapped internally to 5/16" to a depth of 1/2 inch. The end result should allow me to have a 1/4 inch of adjustment.

Stainless would be nice.

Thanks

Daniel

inrtresting idea david,

Have you seen the rivergate adjustable slave design...you might like that.

Daniel, I know a retired engineer locally (Leek,Staffs) who is very reasonable and does little jobs for pocket money but you would need to define it very precisely unless you're near enough to visit him. Chris

I made one myself last week to get my clutch exactly right as it wasn't quite where I wanted it following new clutch, push rod and slave cylinder rebuild.

Welded 3 nuts together (To give me the "thick" bit with internal thread).

Brazed the eye from an old push rod into the top nut.

Cut a bolt down to size to form the part that goes into the slave cylinder. - Cut the head off and rounded the end as per the original so it sits in the slave piston.

The bolt piece scwres into the top half to the right length and is held with an extra locknut. A few goes to get the adjustment spot on and its sorted - my clutch movement is spot on where I wanted it in the overall pedal travel.

Unfortunately I didnt take any pics....but I'll be under the car later so will try to grab one.

Crude diag attached....

I do have 3 nuts just waiting to be welded but decided I'd prefer a nicely machined rod instead.

For now I've got another extra long rod and long term I've a concentric slave to fit.

I've also got busy with a pile of stuff so might not get chance to progress with this for a while, thanks for the responses though.

You could use one of the long barrel nuts that hold the quarter light frames down. That would be quite neat. Anyway who is going to look at it?
