MG Midget and Sprite Technical - oil cooler mounting
Just wanted to share these pictures of the fantastic job I've just had done on Sebrina to mount an oil cooler without cutting away large chunks of the interior of the Sebring GT front. I keep going out to the garage to examine it, its a thing of real beauty that's fired my imagination: http://www.flickr.com/photos/79267312@N00/sets/72157605946827941/ |

A proper job that is, who made it? |

Very nice work Mothy. I'd forgotten what a nice front that is on your car. Really good from that low angle. |
Bill Young |
A chap called Paul Hutchinson fabricated the brackets and did the bulk of the installation work, I'm really pleased with it |

Mothy, that is a very neat installation, looks great. Jeremy |

I take it the second foto is upside-down? I was all set to launch into a discussion of the repercussions of mounting it inverted, then I looked at the other snaps and realized that you hadn't done so after all. Would there be drain-back issues? Would it reduce sludge buildup? Would it make for more effective oil changes? Enquiring minds want to know. David "I guess we'll never know" Lieb |

Nice bracketry there Tim. Any plans for an oilstat, or have you a sandwich plate type we cannot see in the pics? |
Jordan Gibson |
Argh. Ignore my deranged ramblings about sandwich plate oilstats. Oh for an edit facility! |
Jordan Gibson |
oooops ... you spotted the deliberate mistake, David - now inverted (the photo not the cooler!) I'll have to add a stat later Jordan, as I couldn't get hold of one before our Le Mans trip, Moss having sold out. At present though, it is running just right on pressure and engine temp. |

for Mocal stuff go direct to Think Automotive in Isleworth http://www.thinkauto.com/ |

Have you noticed any increase of water temp with the oil rad in front of the water rad....If not Im curious as to why Not??....just seems that the oil rad blacks alot of cool driving air to the water rad. prop |
Prop |
Thanks David, will do on return from Le Mans. Prop, engine temperature is actually about 5 degrees cooler than before - I believe the reason to be because the oil is cooler it is now thicker (it was running at 32psi now running at 55psi) and this assists with keeping the engine temperature down - plus there is about a six inch gap between the oil cooler and the main radiator and the air is being forced through that bonnet duct at speed. The oil rad normally goes in front in front of the water anyway, just slightly lower down. |

Nice neat install :-) "I couldn't get hold of one before our Le Mans trip, Moss having sold out. " I also tried to order the Moss SS + Thermostat kit for the normal Le Mans but they'd sold out then aswell. Ended up ordering the non SS kit from MGOC. And got it just a couple of days before we went. I made a nice aluminium bracket to support the in-line push-on thermostat.....only to find it was exactly where the heater air intake should be - Doh !. So went with it strapped to the heater hose with a few tie wraps instead ;-) |

Paul Hutchinson is a guy that now does work for me on a part time basis. His fabrication work is seccond to none as can be seen in Tim's pictures. Needless to say, he is not short of work! If anyone else would like bespoke fabrication work carried out by Paul, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Mark. |
