MG Midget and Sprite Technical - oil filter
Does anyone in Canada know where I can get an oil filter from a local supply store? if you have the # of this filter it would help me big time... I have a 1979 MG midget with the 1500 motor. I can get filters through online stores but getting one at a local auto parts store would be great! Thank you for your help. Mark

Mark, try one of the better automotive parts suppliers. They can cross reference the filter you have on there now if you give them the number. Forget about Crappy Tire. Most of their imbecile employees have never heard of MG and think we mean GM then they look like deer in the headlights when you tell them the model.

Mark, if you have NAPA stores up there, one of their NAPA Gold filters is not only a perfect fit for the 1500, it's a very good filter to boot. I did some digging last year based on an article on oil filters in the MGB Driver magazine, and the NAPA stuff was rated highly. I have one on my car as we speak. This is the one, as I recall: http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=FIL&PartNumber=1374&Description=Oil+Filter+(Gold) -:G:-

I am having the same issue. The NAPPA number that cross referenced the crosslands filter currently installed does not fit. the spin on post is too small for the filter. I am relegated to ordering the filters online.

Mark, Try this website, it might give you some parts numbers for alternative filters, additionally it gives the technical specs for all the filters. http://www.sogefifilterdivision.com/site/FO/scripts/myFO_contenu.php?noeu_id=10117&lang=EN Tim

I have one of each adapter - 5/8" and 3/4" - and keep the "other" one in my tool bag just in case. As for NAPA, the filter I linked to above isn't a Croslands item. As I understand, it's made by Wix. And apparently that's a Good Thing. Later, -:G:- |
