MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil gauge

OK - very quick question, and I've looked in the archives, but, it was too long and there's not enough time!

A few weeks ago, my temperature gauge was acting strange - now my oil gauge is.

With the temperature one, there was no apparent reason for it - took the thermostat out and checked it manually for a few days - so, suspect there might have been a glitch.

Am thinking the same thing with the oil - just done an oil change and 4 litres came out - and a bit more went in (to allow for the leaks!), and, since they are on the same display ......

Comments please - bearing in mind that I don't really have time to take the engine out this weekend as I have to prepare for my dad to come and look after the horses next week!

Are these electical gauges? Are they supplied from the same voltage regulator and earth? Check the connections... e.g. spades are on tight; earth is secure on gauge.

only electrical parts of these guages are the bulbs

you find the guage is on its last legs

Yeah - was figuring it was following me down to the knackers yard ...! Hopefully borrow a spare one to try before changing it for sure though.

Just had to do it now :(

Rach,

How posh are you having an oil gauge on a 1500!

Aren't you happy with the flickering green lamp in the speedo? Lol

Late 1500s had an electric temp gauge and no oil gauge.

Is yours the earlier dual gauge, or do you have the late temp gauge and a retro-fitted oil gauge?

LOL Steve - I'm as posh as someone who puts hand-me-down wings on her car :)

It's an early one, and it's knackered, and all seems sorted now - just running a few other minor tests as befits someone who's wasting valuable time that could be used removing car parts from the house before dad comes ...!

Still, at least I'm on track to make everything done by Wednesday so she can get polished to within an inch of falling to pieces!

Rach,
I replaced mine with a new one from MechSpec MG after the temp side died.
Now I know my engine is cool and I have about 5-7 more lbs. of oil pressure :o)

I regret to say that, from her behaviour today (at least I know someone else has the same reversing trouble that I had mid-autotest!), I think that she's throwing every "hissy fit" in her book at me just now - hopefully she will be sorted and settled by Thursday :S

I should probably have replaced it before now .......! (The gauge - NOT the car!)
