MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil pressure sender

Im contemplating replacing the mechanical oil pressure gauge on my 1500 midget to an electrical one, will this sender fit in the block or will i need an adaptor?

Sorry to ask but why?

I just think it'll look a bit neater and in the past if the gauge has leaked it has always been in the cockpit which makes a mess of the carpets!

Thats one huge sender..i had to get an adapter for mine (auto meter), just general hardware brass pipe thread fitting, so id plan on it, and hope you wont need it

But mine Is a 1275

Personally I like the electric gauge, as the oil ALoWAYS leaked on my leg, and a wire is much easier to deal with then a copper or nylon tube.

In over 34 years, I have NEVER had a leak from the Oil gauge connection under the dashboard.

If it is connected tightly, with a decent fibre washer I think from memory (it's so long since I changed it I forget), I can't see how you get a problem with leaks.

But if you are changing for visual preference, I guess that's a more than good enough reason.

I should add that mine is a 1275 too.

Are the 1500's more prone to oil gauge leakage then?
Lawrence Slater

Nope!

Methinks that's just an excuse to have a gauge dashboard like Props .......!

my mate reckons the mechanical ones are more accurate so is swapping other way round

Jamie, I changed to an electric oil pressure gauge mainly for appearance (although the thought of pressurized oil under the dash was always in the back of my mind!). I can't speak to a 1500, but on my 1275, the sender screwed right into the block, maybe with a supplied adapter. However, due to the size, it interfered with the vacuum advance part of the distributor making timing adjustments difficult. I found a great custom hose place and they made me a flex hose that goes from the block to the sending unit, which I mounted on the inner fender. So far, seems to be working fine.

On the 1500 the take off is below the dizzy pedestal directly opposite the No: 2 Main Bearing feed.

If memory serves me correctly it is a 1/8 BSP fitting.
