MG Midget and Sprite Technical - only 6 more blocks

Got the 75 on the road and test runs for serveral days, but just 6 blocks from home today the mechanical fuel pump gave out. Fixed or changed every thing on the midget except that.
I am going to install a electric fuel pump in the rear near the fuel tank.
The question is what is the best way to run a wire to the pump?

On my '63 I put a toggle switch under the dash, switched wire to it (so the pump turns on/off with the key but you can turn it off manually via the toggle when working on electrics or something and you don't want the pump going all the time). Maybe you have an unused toggle on the dash already you can use. I ran the wire down behind a front panel then under the carpet and through a convenient hole right above the axle area and then to pump. You probably should have an inertia switch or oil pressure sensor switch in the mix to kill the pump in event of an accident (to avoid fuel getting pumped onto a fire situation). I didn't do that yet though.

Do you know what went wrong with your mechanical pump? Just curious -- I had to replace mine several years ago, but haven't had a spot of trouble since. The things are dead simple; much more so than the electric ones, and they automatically maintain correct fuel pressure to the carb with no regulator. Seems to me it would be a lot easier to sort or replace the original-type pump, unless you just want to convert to electric.

I have read on the threads that the mechanical fuel pump is not very reliable over the electric fuel pump, that is why I have changed it. The pump I got has not over 4 lbs pressure, good for the weber. It is also very quiet and not the loud clicking noise. Paid $65 plus $20 for fittings and then put a 3 amp fuse inline. Not vey hard to install.
I just put the mechanical pump back on until I can make a block to replace in its place.

Main reason for changing is that if chanched to electric and you have a failure you can replace the pump with any pump and those are available all over the world. If you have a mechanical pump and its stuck you have to order one from a special supplier.
