MG Midget and Sprite Technical - pertronix electronic distributor question

I just got a pertronix electronic distributor for my 71 mg midget 1275 negative earth car. The old distributor has a single connection to the coil. This new one has a pos and neg wire. Anyone have any experience with this. From the directions it seems I just connect the red wire to the pos side of the coil and the black wire to the neg side of the coil.

Thanks
Ken Bargeron

Thats right. It will work like that
na munn

... and then retime the ign to 7 deg BTDC (or whatever is your preferred).

Right, the triggering point for the PerTronix may well be different than the triggering point for the old points, so you'll need to re-time. Pretty much what Anthony said, really.

just a few side notes as I have the same set up....

1. get a in-line fuse and run it between the pos. coil and chip...why? 25cent fuse vs. $100 chip...hhmmm

2. make sure the wires at the chip arent (hinging) when the vacumee advance is in movement...it will breaddown the wire and shoert

3. check the clearance of rotor to cap with the maginet ring in place...may have to file down the bottom of rotor bug

Ken,

Yes, red to +ve and black to -ve, BUT please make sure that the coil is connected correctly in the first place!! Coils will work with reversed connections, Pertronix will not and will be irreversibly damaged.
