MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Petrol pump
Hi I am interested if anyone has decided to not use the standard SU fuel pump and has used the mechanical pump which of course bolts on to the engine once the blanking plate is removed. My car is a 1275cc mk3 72 midget. I was wondering how reliable they are as I have already had 2 SU pumps in 4 years. Currently I use a small electric pump which I mounted in the boot for easy access and to be honest the car have now been perfect for 2 years however it is a bit noisy. Ian

Ian - our frog went through two mechanical pumps in 2 years - they appear to be poorly manufactured, now it runs an ebay electric pump with no problems - have you rubber mounted yours to reduce the noise?

Hi Thanks for the quick rely. Yes I have rubber mounted it but it is quite noisy but acceptable, it is relly only noisy when filling up but much louder than the original one. What pump do you use, I use a FAI EFP1 fromfai automotive in Leighton Buzzard, it is a direct replacement for the Midget but I looked at their web site today and they no longer list pumps. Cheers

See ebay item 200217216513, worked for a couple of people round here, ticks when you start up then we don't notice it.

If your engine is from 1972 ,,, I dont think you can use a mechanical pump....not sure about over there....but isnt your mechanical fuel pump location just a hunk of block steel...you would have to have it machined out...at a machine shop ...is my guess. prop
