MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Re chroming bumpers

Never having had any parts re chromed I was wondering what the consensus on re chroming vs polishing.

My bumpers have developed speckles of rust ( the doctors can do nothing for me it seems) and I've done a brief bit of google based research on options. As I see it there are two, remove rust speckles with a soaped brillo pad and plenty of water and then hit them with brasso or strip the bumpers down to bare steel, polish laboriously and have them re plated.

I'm inclined to go for the brillo pads and brasso as I can just pinch those out of the kitchen cupboard but as this will only be delaying the inevitable should I just go for it?

How hard is it to strip and polish bumpers? Does it work out cheaper to buy replicas? will this thread posting ever end?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

the quality of copy bumpers is poor, so depending on if you want to show the car or just use it and have fun think of the cost, if you have them re-chromed the company doing the job will strip them to bare metal, correct any dent scratches etc and then re-chrome to a much higher standard then the available copies. If you go down the copie route then make sure you paint the backs of the bumper your self as this will rust very quickly and polish on a regular basis, other than that clean up with a brillo pad or very fine steel wool and wax it up often.

depends what you want. My own '67 midget has nicely speckled bumpers, but then it would because they are 42 years old!

Think I'll go the brillo and polish route. Many thanks!
