1/4 or 1/2 elliptic car?.
David Billington

Hi David, Sorry should has provided more details. The cars a 72 RWA with 1/2 elliptical springs. My first midget and requires the rear passenger floor section and bulkhead panel that joins this. Some bright spark has had a go at repairing this before and welded the bracket that holds the front mounting of the rear spring to the floor! Wanted to do a better job and replace these parts along with the spring hanger box and would like a few tips from anyone who may have tackled this before. Thanks Paul..

Paul.

It's a matter of biting the bullet..... See what is available in repair panels and cut out what is corroded corresponding to what you can get to repair.

It may be worth making a jig to ensure everything is in alignment or some very careful measuring from an original (unwelded) car.

Good luck,

Mark.

I did it, but im not sure i made such a great job of it. I had to replace the bulkhead as well so it made it a bigger job.

hi there, I'm just doing similar job on my 1500 midget rear spring hangers. Does anyone know if there are supposed to be 2 steel strips about 8mm thick sandwiched between the forward spring hanger bracket & the floor pan? (loose items not welded in) I cant see these in any parts list or manual so I wonder if they have been added by a PO or whether they were to increase the ride height on the R/Bumper models. Can I just leave these out?

I'd be greatful for any info.....

Those two bits of steel that look like they where made by a blacksmith are indeed standard parts on a 1500. I however have never replaced them once I have removed them. Unless anyone knows better.

P Whiting whereabouts in Warwickshire are you?

Thanks Carl, you are right they look like they were made by a partially sighted smithy who had a few too many pints at lunch time! I think I'll leave them out - once I have a floor again ! Unless, as you say anyone knows better !
