MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Reverse light switch

midget Mk 3 Gan5 1275cc

My reverse lights have failed. As I don't drive at night it could be this happened some while ago - my wife noticed this when I reversed out of the garage recently. Bulbs checked & working. Wiring in boot area looks OK. I believe the brake lights use the same fuse & these work fine.

The engine was out last August with a clutch change at a local garage of repute. Maybe they failed to reconnect the switch? Where is the switch and how do I access it?

Thank you.

Gavin.

PS - are reverse lights needed to pass an MOT?

GN Rowles

The switch itself is located on the top front of the remote, so if you remove the cover and gaiter, you should be able to see it. There is some wiring with bullet connectors, which runs forwards along the gearbox.

There is also a connection behind the dash, on the right hand side, where the main loom joins the rear loom.

AFAIK they aren't required for the MoT.

Not required for an MOT, Gavin.
