MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Snail Heater

How many different brackets are there for fitting the snail heater to the car? The one I have received from Andy Jennings (snail heater and bracket) does not fit to any mounting holes on the heritage shell, and I don't know if it is because I have the wrong bracket or because the shell is incorrect (it appears to be one of the first ones made, just been sitting for a very long time without being assembled)

Heritage shells generally share many bits with later models incl 1500 floor pans etc (hole fot propshaft access) - so would assume they only have mounts for the later non snail heaters.
I have a RWA version with the later unit A series heater unit.

I believe that the bracket changed between Mk2 and Mk3 midget, Mk3 and Mk4 Sprite, in order to clear the wider pedalbox.

ok,, ive got to ask... whats a snail heater ?
Andy Phillips (frankenfrog)

The heater shelf mounts are definitely for the box for the snail heater, so it looks like I need to modify the bracket and drill a new hole in the body.

Andy
A snail heater is a heater fan motor housing in the shape of a snail. Used on earlier Spridgets.

Andy,
bit of a misnomer really as it's the the blower housing (as in photo) is the bit that looks like a snail

heater matrix is housed on a squarish black metal box and the two are joined by a bit of trunking, coming off the top right circular outlet in photo

the front opening in the photo would be the inlet trunking running from the front of the car and aperture of the side mud shield at the side of the rad (hope this bit makes sense)

Here is a photo of the early heater. I also used a Heritage shell and had to drill several holes to fit things properly. I'm pretty sure the snail fan was one such item.
