MG Midget and Sprite Technical - SPAX damper conversion

Hello Boys and Girls
Moss promotes two different SPAX rear suspension kits. One for the 1275 and another for the 1500 midget.
The 1275 kit include one bracket for each side, wheras the 1500 include two brackets for each side.
Does anyone happen to know why the kits are not the same.
Only difference in the suspension between the 1275 and the 1500 is apparantly the leaf springs.

The obvious difference is the ride height.

Personally, I think a *good* set of lever arms will give a much better ride than telescopics, but that's just my opinion ;o)

Slightly off-topic, but I fitted ordinary Classic Mini rear telescopics, bought new in a knock-down sale for £10. I welded turrets to the floor directly over the axle, to get the optimum operating stroke, and the lower end fits to the existing bracket on the axle. The ride is certainly no worse (ie awful) and this was much cheaper than a pair of recon lever arms - which in my experience are nothing more than filled with new oil.

Going through the process of removing telescopics (Frontline kit) from the rear of my car. The ride is hard and choppy no matter how the settings are adjusted I can't achieve a satisfactory ride. Also geometrically it is difficult to achieve adequate stroke length to deal with bottoming out and topping out issues. Had the same problem on an MGA. Back to lever arms!

The SPAX conversion puts the damper at an angle which solves the problem of inadequate travel and softer settings but it has of course disadvantages. e.g. very little if any damping when loaded up with luggage. But then the suspension would be close to the bump stop anyway.

Two different kits for 1275 and 1500 is probably due to the extra chassis strengthening on a 1500.
