MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Spridget window regulator.

Just replaced the drivers side window regulator, as the original would not wind up the last 3"" or so. The problem on investigation was the last few teeth were well worn on the semi circular winder mechanism.
I must say that it took several hours longer to actually do the job than to type this! What a s*d of a job. I have previously fitted regulators to both doors when building the car into the new shell, but had the doors horizontally on my bench, making it an easier proposition. Didn't take the door off to do the job, as I am happy with alignment!
Now here's the problem. I thought there were only TWO regulator types on the Spridget, early and late i.e part numbers AHA7038/9 for early cars and AHA8533/4 for late 1275's and all 1500's. The latter has a hexagonal shank to take a plastic winder.
The former has a square shank to take the metal (chromed) winder - but to my consternation there would appear to be two different lengths of the square shank type. The one I fitted today is longer than the one I took off (no I didn't compare them before fitting🙈), and consequently the pin in the winding handle is not retained by the ADB709 escutcheon.
Sorry that was all a bit long winded. Would appreciate any comments, has anyone come across this before?
Thanks, John.

Without a doubt the worst job to do on the spridget

How much blood did you leave inside the door

Thst question is a bit to technical for the women i wish i was sleeping with,

Try the library section on the website mg experiance, they have several good articals on door assemblies for the spridget so there mybe a kernnle of info found there your looking for

Maybe someone with holers book can look up which winder was used for which year of spridget

Another thought mybe there was a different winder for the midget then what the sprit used and there not compatable

Luck to you

Prop

Cheers for that Prop. Blood wise, thought I had a red car instead of blue at one stage! One of the problems is kneeling for a couple of hours next to an open Spridget door - then attempting to get up. Most humorous to onlookers!🙈

If you want I can try and measure mine , I have early chrome winders won't take minute to take one off . Your right about the doors , I want to get my car resprayed and the thought of stripping the doors is what is putting me off
