MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Sprite tappets

Hi can someone tell me what to set the tappets to on a 948cc frog engine alsoI am changing the air filters
will this alter the carb mixture? Thanks Keith

Keith

Use .012" for your tappets unles you have a modified cam then .015" will be safer.

Changing the air filters may change the mixture buy a fraction, but I'd leave alone if you feel the car is running well...

Mark.

It depends on how good or bad your previous air filters were as to the difference the new ones make

If it's a big difference then you mught be best to alter the carb mixture

normally I'd recommend getting a paper copy of the owners Handbook and doing a full service but I don't know if you can get a copy for the frogeye - still suggest doing a full service and for the whole car

I will adjust tappets when I get a new rocker gasket thanks for the info its just standard and matching numbers so I want to keep it as is. It was serviced and MOT'd about three weeks ago and going well. Thanks Guys.

Nigel you got me thinking I have just been hunting around and found the original drivers hand book I am well pleased thanks. I have been washing and polishing as I am off to Abingdon Air Show with the car club I will take some pic's as there will be an area for Sprites & midgets only hope the weather holds

Keith - when you go to Abingdon Air Show - then get Mike Parker to have a quick look - and he'll be able to tell you!

It's soooo much easier than trying to imagine peoples' cars and advise.

However, the only time that there should be any change would be when you put something like new K&Ns on after older ones, at which stage, you need to reconsider your needle choice.

Mark I'm glad I did and that you found it, just so useful

I wonder if it's as detailed as the later version or even more so

The weather's been much better than forecast here so you might be lucky too

I think Mike Parker is sorting out the sprite parking area so I will ask when I get there.

Nigel it has 1958 printed inside the front cover and is in very good condition! hope to upload some pic's Sunday night.
